Easy Weaning DVD from The Baby Chef

I have to admit that when I first sat down to watch The Baby Chef Easy Weaning DVD I was somewhat skeptical. I mean, really, who needs to be shown how to steam and puree an apple? And yet, when I got out my ironing board and popped the DVD on to watch while I worked through a mountain of clothes I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, The Baby Chef does teach you how to steam and puree an apple but also does much more than this.

Matt Hazell, a Dad himself, has recognised many of the concerns that parents face when they first start the weaning process and he addresses these concerns in the DVD in a way that a recipe book cannot. For instance, I remember, when I was first weaning Garden Girl, doubting whether I had pureed her food enough, or too much. The Baby Chef DVD is an opportunity to see exactly what consistency you should be making your purees, giving you the confidence to go ahead and make your own. Matt tries hard throughout the DVD to show you how easy it is to make your own purees and discusses many of the issues which make parents worry, including allergies, choking and timing.

With the help of Dietrician, Lucy Jones, Matt also looks at nutrition and the signs to look for when deciding if your child is ready to start solid food. I found the friendly discussions between Matt and Lucy very interesting and I was impressed with the relaxed attitude they both had towards the weaning process. We are reminded that when babies first start solid foods they are still meeting all their nutrional needs from their milk. Early weaning is more about getting your baby used to new tastes, textures and aromas.

Included with the DVD is a useful wipe clean meal planner to help you chart your babies progress as well as an easy to follow recipe booklet which includes all the recipes featured on the DVD.

At £19.99 I think that this DVD is quite expensive, especially when recipe books can be picked up for a third of that price, however the benefit of actually seeing the food being made and the confidence the relaxed attitude inspires is what makes this a unique product. If you are looking for a practical gift for a new mum, or Dad (Garden Dad thought it was an excellent idea) this will be much appreciated when the time for weaning arrives.  But why not take a look for yourself. If you visit The Baby Chef website you can watch a short introduction to the DVD, as well as accessing weaning advice and additional recipe ideas. You can also send your recipe suggestions to Matt Hazel for a chance to appear in his next DVD.

The Baby Chef DVD is available to buy from the The Baby Chef website.
